This is not only perhaps the most beautiful film I have ever seen, but also the most spiritually affecting. If there's ever a movie I would love to see in theaters, it is this one. Aside from that opportunity, if you are going to watch this: Carve out the time necessary to watch it in a single sitting. Make the room as dark as you can, put away all distractions, & immerse yourself in a movie unlike any other. This movie can change your life.

Blue Velvet 1986
One of the greatest openings in any film I've watched--a brilliant, efficient, and memorable thesis statement from Lynch. The movie as a whole is great, too. Lynch's portrayal of the evil that lurks beneath the surface of modern life is always fascinating, and its manifestation in Hopper's character is particularly poignant. Hopper's "PABST! BLUE! RIBBON!" line never gets old. MacLachlan and Dern are great as always.

Melancholia 2011
Lars von Trier creates such a particular mood in this film--quiet, intriguing, meditative...perhaps my favorite end-of-the-world movie. Dunst is phenomenal as well.

Do the Right Thing 1989
Powerful, complex, and deeply affecting film. Great performances, soundtrack, and thought-provoking subject matter. Manages to inspire serious thought and reflection without being preachy.
One of the sweatiest movies I've ever seen, too.
