  on its surface, emilia perez is not bad in the same way that a movie like, say, madame web is bad. it’s competently made technically, for the most part — audiard understands the basics of how a camera works, how to choreograph a scene, how to create tension. it looks fine enough. sounds decent. the acting isn’t noticeably terrible. the songs are bad, but in an unmemorable kind of way, not an outwardly cacophonous way (well, mostly).
