My power went out, had to finish watching on my phone = experience compromised. That said, Jake and Heath were electric. Though I found myself having to fight the disdain towards both men regarding their unfaithfulness towards their wives, but also understand how they exist within a system that set them up for failure.

When you are perpetually in survival mode, your rational faculties become compromised. You are chronically vigilant and trying to get by, yet be true to yourself…

Chalamet can do no harm, probably. Felt that the Carrell/Ryan history from the Office detracted from the movie, also felt like Carrell’s performance was somewhat forced or unnatural. Narrative flow seemed bumpy, often couldn’t tell what point in time I was. Not sure that every book should be made into a movie. Still liked it, probably wouldn’t watch it again. Having dealt with family in similar relationship, my heart went out to the son.

A film about an actor’s process in making a film or play and dealing with the hardships of aging as an actress. Not particularly invested in the meta of it, but the complexities and dynamics in the relationship between Kristen’s and Charlotte’s characters is compelling. Superb acting and natural chemistry between the two. It’s a relationship that captures so many types of relationships in one’s life… romantic, platonic, mentor/mentee, employer/employee, etc. For a movie that is dialogue heavy, it keeps you engaged. Lots of great shots in it too.

Idk if sociological thriller is a thing, but maybe it should be. Lots of thoughts and feelings come to mind… how we define ourselves through our relationships, how we define (or re-evaluate) who we are in our response to transient moments of crisis, a commentary on gender roles, perhaps an exploration of the value of identity in itself. And even how much importance we assign to our concept of self aligning with our externalized experience. Plus, the film is gorgeous and the acting is top-tier.
