    Peter Pan with a dash of Yojimbo. I suppose I understand the gripes, but it's difficult for me not to root for a film that so frequently displays this much imagination. It's a delightful ride, and (for my dollar) the most misunderstood and underrated of the series.

    Yes, Anora runs about 20 minutes too long. Yes, Ani starts to ride sidecar in her own self-titled feature around the midway point. No, it doesn't really humanize Anora in ways emblematic of Sean Baker's previous work. But dammit if the script doesn't sizzle even amidst all the "Fuck you, motherfuckers."

    Certainly appreciated the film's experimentation with the standard-issue biopic formula, however, if you take the "dancing monkey" parable out, all you're left with is, well, the standard-issue biopic formula. Its central gimmick is never truly utilized in any meaningful way beyond novelty. That said, however, the team of VFX Artists tasked with bringing this warped, albeit unfocused, vision to life most definitely deserve the recognition they're receiving. The performances are sturdy.
