Best use of a multiverse concept, brimming with originality and inventiveness but about something tangibly real. Yeoh, JLC and Key Huy Quan are all superb but it’s Stephanie Hua’s movie.
One of the better post Trainspotting flicks. A 90s hang movie, not much happens plot wise, it’s a night out (of it) but they’re good company with John Simm and Danny Dyer are eating it up, literally.
Eggers takes the overly familiar tale and makes it feel fresh and pulsatingly alive. A Luxuriously gothic fever dream with Lily Rose Depp at its heart. Among the many subtle changes in the Murnau/Stoker standard, gone are is the simpering, helpless Victorian heroine replaced by an Ellen (Mina) that has a real, beguiling sense of agency that elevates the film to something special — that last scene hits especially hard, with a heady blend of romance and repulsion.
