Edmund O'Brien drinks a bad cocktail in San Francisco, and rolls into the police to report his own murder, chewing scenery the whole way down as a literal dead man walking. Great nightclub jazz sequence 20 minutes in (miming to the soundtrack, but it looks great). Lots of confusing plot twists, but always a brisk ride.
