Still reeling from this one. It's raw and emotionally charged. The actors' all gave incredible performances, especially the titular characters. Now one of my top Christmas movies.
I thoroughly enjoyed this! There were a handful of times when the "old person being incompetent" shtick got a little overdone, but I was always won back by the sheer charm of the cast and the Mission: Impossible stylings of it all. I especially loved the Thelma-Danny and Thelma-Ben chemistry throughout. It's the best, most wholesome example of grandparent/grandchild relationship put to film imo. Squibb channeled every ornery older aunt/grandparent I've ever had or met. Also, I'm a sucker for a movie about folks learning that they can and should depend on their loved ones for support.

First time watching this, went with the dubbed version. Pretty solid performances from the cast, (Brad Garrett stands out comedically as one of the seaplane pirates) though I'm still a little iffy about Keaton's Porco. Good, but you sorta expect more from him. The visuals are stellar, as you would expect from a Miyazaki film. The scale and spectacle of the aerial dogfights impress, and the chase/getaway sequence through the canals especially stuck with me. There's some fun physical comedy that got a few laughs, particularly during Porco and Curtis's faceoff towards the end.
This movie is so many things: an autobiographical coming-of-age surreal superhero tragicomedy parody that centers trans experiences. I'd call it a tightrope walk, but it's so much more than that; it feels much more like a spider's web. All these pieces come together to form a net that captured and pulled me into this mixed-media dreamscape (nightmare-scape?).
