MIRA and ANILA are just such beautifully characters crafted with so much care. It was the first movie I watched where I could genuinely relate to the coming of age story from the kissing of her own hand and discovering her sexuality to when she started dancing in the mirror to that slightly sultry sounding song to see how her body moves in this new lens to her life that she's discovered. Although the script did have its dull moments, the manner in which Clooney showed the "separate but equal" aspect of the time period was pretty interesting. The racism was in the filming, which was a unique way of portraying it rather than a straight up storyline. Matt Damon's murder and mayhem takes on most of the dialogue and screen time, which is held in stark contrast to the black family next door who were mostly on screen without lines and racist slurs being yelled at them. It was almost as though Clooney was following the style of Chesnutt's Marrow of Tradition through his direction.
