Starts out as one of the most unique sci-fi short films I’ve come across but then just settles itself with recycling the same sci-fi tropes we’ve seen done numerous times before but better. A lot of missed opportunities despite the great premise.

The Maltese Falcon 1941
The film that set the standard for film noir. Humphrey Bogart delivers a cold and unsentimental performance, perfectly embodying what would become the archetype of 1940s detectives. John Huston does a masterful job crafting his directorial debut, with excellent cinematography and atmosphere, creating iconic imagery that would return in the many subsequent films it inspired, such as the detective’s office, constant smoking, and contrasting shadows and light. The film's razor-sharp dialogue and morally ambiguous characters also elevate its cinematic style, establishing a blueprint for the hard-boiled detective film.

Hundreds of Beavers 2022
One of the funniest films I have ever seen. It is also one of the best examples of world building I've seen in films. Hundreds of Beavers not only creates a distinct map of its world, with unique locations and features, but also creates rules to its world that the film not only adheres to, but expands upon. Once it establishes an axiom, it will build complex equations with it, pushing the boundaries of its universe to unexpected heights. A truly epic snowy wilderness survival film, that makes The Revenant pale in comparison in terms of cinematic achievement, scope, and violence

Andrei Rublev 1966
Who would have thought that watching an hour long segment of the construction of a bell in medieval russia while the main character of the story doesn't say or do anything would so enthralling.
