    ★★★

I still remember very clearly how speechless I was coming out of the cinema at the time: "Sin City" had developed a unique style of combining comics & cinema in a new way the year before: In 2007 "300" went one step further.

But both films share the problem with such an extreme look - they haven't aged particularly well.
"300" is still visually stunning and impressively choreographed - Snyder's penchant for slow motion and time-lapse is maximally effective here, and…

    Love Lies Bleeding

    ★★★★½

"Love lies bleeding" is not a musical - otherwise practically all genres are represented, from body horror to romcom.

The fight scenes are undoubtedly the highlight: whether…

    Watchmen

    ★★★★½

Zack Snyder's “Watchmen” is undoubtedly the pinnacle of his work.

The graphic novel is rightly regarded as one of the most profound and influential comic stories ever:
It deconstructs the superhero mythos by questioning the morality and the whole concept of a hero.
Rorschach and the Comedian are not shining saviors, but uncompromising, cynical & dangerous vigilantes.
With Dr. Manhattan, we see what Superman could look like without morality.
But “Watchmen” goes beyond the ambivalence of the characters and also questions…
