A dramatisation of The Fitzgerald Inquiry which looked into illegal prostitution and gambling aided by corrupt police.

Stalwart Bill Hunter stars as star witness Graeme Parker. He won Best Actor at the Australian Film Institute for his role. And for good reason as he’s excellent.

Police State is a fantastic TV movie. It’s well made, dignified and non-sensationalistic. It combines actual documentary footage into proceedings. It also won the award for Best Telefeature at the AFI awards.

Police State is gripping to the last.

Inspector Plugg is hired to watch the Pussycat escort agency. Inspector Closer is in close pursuit.

This is an Aussie cross between a sex comedy and a Pink Panther parody.

Whatever substances the makers of this film were on (and they would have to have been on something), it didn't help with creativity.

    Lamentable.

    So, whats it like?

It feels like some kind of faux sequel made exclusively for Netflix. Even John Carpenter's score feels like a plastic pastiche.

    It's quite an…

I first became aware of the singer Nico in 1988, ironically the year the singer passed away. I was becoming a huge fan of Siouxsie and the Banshees and a new book had been published about the band. The first few pages went through the early lives of the band members and the bands they were listening to as they were growing up. Of course one of them was The Velvet Underground and Nico. The picture published to illustrate this…
