The Substance 2024
At first, I thought this was just a long black mirror episode but was delighted at the campy ending that seemed to reference the thing, carrier and the shining. I love it when horror films acknowledge previous classics. Otherwise, it was a solid satire - not a lot of subtlety but some nice symbolism through colour and red threaded objects or shapes. Definitely one to watch in a group rather than alone because it makes it feel less weird to share the experience with others - loved looking on at my co-watchers' perturbed faces throughout
