This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
HOLY. SHIT. This was a wild ride (which channels a bit of "The Strangers") I couldn't look away from. The pacing is gripping and the finale was one of the most intense I've seen in a minute. I highly recommend this one.
TW: nudity, gore, violence against children, child d*ath.
Let me preface this by saying proudly that yes, I am an M. Night Shyamalan fan through and through ("The Village" is my favorite) and I had high expectations for this movie. It did not disappoint.
Dave Bautista gives an amazing dramatic performance as Leonard that really carries the whole film, Jonathan Groff's (Eric) character felt underused and underdeveloped which was a bummer for me since I'm a big fan of his. Ben Aldridge (Andrew) was also great, glad to see he's moved up from being "F*** Me In The A**" Guy from Fleabag.
I love an apocalyptic thriller, what can I say?
I know this is a movie about a bear on a coke binge, but I did expect more from it. Maybe that's my bad?
This went on about 40 minutes longer than it should've, I was bored after the ambulance scene and the family dynamics felt forced all around. I also found myself thinking "wouldn't it be dead by NOW?"
This was such a fun ride through a horror multiverse, I was pleasantly surprised! (But Bailey rarely steers me wrong so 🤷🏼)
Just the right amount of camp, feels, and spookiness makes this for a solid Stony Baloney Time watch.
