It's fine! Acting is fun, but makes Bong JH's SNOWPIERCER or THE HOST feel more typical of his work than PARASITE. Putting aside a slightly mutilated feel to the story (why the pigeon outfit?), the script's almost pedagogical in places, where it just stops to tell you what to think. Imagining the dismay of the filmmakers when on Oct 2023, and wondering if they suspected that Israel's monstrous and still ongoing retaliation -- their wanton slaughter of noncombatants, their deliberate headshots against children, their deliberate destruction of all health and education infrastructure -- would turn the decent world against Israel in mere months.

The footage and the interviews with the sea women: great! Invaluable.

The story of why women do this job and not men? Even now? Barely explained.

The absence of *any* reference to the 1948 Jeju Uprising? Bizarre and cheap.

Honestly the most unpleasant thing I've seen in threaters this year. I had a great time at The Northman. I bow to no one in my love of The Lighthouse. I have heard The VVitch is very good. I'm inclined to like this Eggers.

But the dialogue, whew! Does not have that magic! It's like a fan fiction version of the 1830s.

I did not feel that we falling through to some other side of existence, not like I have…
