    What would you do if you're not happy or even content, and yet reluctant of change in the midst of changing times? How would you handle or advise on the situation of being loved but not understood?

    Not surreal, neither hyperreal nor unreal. In our girl, the protagonist Rooy-Bekheir, is a specific and yet a very shared realness transcending culture and time, and I'm not quite sure how much of my reality it really is

    The student film club at the University of Ibadan is doing something special. Their meetings dig into cinema as a vehicle for social movements, and on the streets they organize these conversations into demonstrable action.

    I watched this as part of the HRWFF's final year, in a screening followed by a Q&A with the director. His commentary underscored how very alive and fecund this film club and its participants are.

    I found a particular refuge in this movie steeped in the love for my motherland and its people and the popular movements they built, and that comes to nest in my dad's hometown. It has ease in its intellect and confidence in its acceptance of uncertainty.
