This wasn't the best film ever on a technical basis. It was a fairly mundane romance plot set in a rural Southern US town.
However for me personally, I found it deeply affecting. As a trans woman, I'm used to media presenting women like me as either unloveable or hypersexual objects to be discarded. This film was different.

Some of the best atmosphere I've ever seen in a film. Unfortunately it felt like the story was building to some grand horrific conclusion and while it gave it its best effort, I felt a bit deflated at the end. Still a worthwhile experience.
Also worth noting is that like the torture scene in Pan's Labyrinth, there is some very shocking and gory violence at times.
There's still a little bit of magic in the world, and it seems to come from the fingers of incredibly hard working ateliers in House Dior. They were ultimately the stars of the movie.
