I’m a big horror fan but never actually get scared by a horror movie and the basic jump scares but Hereditary is one of the best horror films I've seen in a long time.
It has an amazing twist at the end but also all kinds of twist throughout the movie that lock the audience in.
It doesn’t need the jump scares!
The film does an excellent job building an erie setting with its camera work and lighting!

The narrative of the film unfolds through self-contained segments, the main plot being the experiences of Pam. But the film is not just the story of Pam's teenage years. It examines the whole experience of growing up female in the 1980s.
The opening frames prepare the viewer for the double messages ahead.
There is a lot of tension throughout this short film causing conflicts (brief). There’s a disconnect in the relationship of Pam’s parents who have not spoken directly for…
The narrator and the weary gunfighter interact which is surprising. I loved how comedy was used to further the plot.
I liked the the scenery, lighting and setting and how they all help to establish this short film as of the Western genre.
Breaking the fourth wall helped connect with the audience and increase the comedy; breaking the fourth wall can evoke deeper emotions within the viewer so I may use this in my short film.
The whole film has…
This narrative clearly has a twist revealed to the audience at the end.
I was inspired by this film because between each of the close-ups the film cuts to show flashbacks of the girl’s day-to-day life, which allows us as an audience to grow closer to the character and learn more about her.
The fact that the young girl talks so casually to the camera implies how she feels comfortable with having someone there for her.
The film is handheld which gives the sense of a documentary - making this more of a reality and all the more intriguing which is inspiring for my short film.
