Wicked 2024
really stuck between 3.5 and 4 stars on this, because the production was absolutely perfect but very few risks were taken…ariana grande as glinda SHOCKED me with how perfect she was for the role and the comedy - so convincing and not recognisable as herself which is often what i don’t like about really famous faces being casted in big movies. cynthia’s acting was phenomenal as well and elphaba really moved me, and of course the singing was fantastic!!! soundtrack is already on repeat 🎶🎶

incredible sfx for 1968, commentary on humanity’s ego, and mind-bending visuals but slightly gratuitous use of silence and psychedelic colours put me off. one might say it’s even a bit pretentious…
points for being ahead of its time but that, and the sequence with hal, was unfortunately not enough in my eyes. going into a deep lore dive online now, maybe i’ll change my mind.
