this is directed by a white lesbian woman. she is a white creator perpetuating her white gaze.
i recommend reading “is paris burning?” by bell hooks. her analysis is incredible and it’s an important read.also the director didn’t compensate the black and brown lgbt+ folks of the balls for the longest time after the film was made. she used the popularity of the film for her own advantage.
white creators should not tell these stories.
