  A new addition to TSPDT, just like Med Hondo's later movie West indies, this is mostly concerned with the smaller part of West Indies: the life of African immigrants in France. It has New Wave influences in its nice b/w style and in the political discussion. Overall rather free form collection of scenes than a strict narrative that show the struggles and discriminations against the immigrants of the former colonies, aforementioned political discussions and scenes of African-French culture.   Handsworth Songs 1986

  Another new TSPDT film, this is an experimental hour-long documentary about the 1985 riots in London and Birmingham's Handsworth district which I never heard of before. I can't really claim to know much more about it now than the associations one has when reading the single-sentence synopsis. Party this is due to the lack of subtitles and rather lo-fi quality which made it often hard for me to understand what people were saying (with various accents). At the same time…
