Desperately hoping for anything near the genius of 5th Element. Got... meh. I love the opening that establishes the station. After that, things go straight downhill with what feels like 30 minutes of forced sexual tension between two very pretty people--with ZERO chemistry, of zero value to the plot.

Rip Torn goes over the top as always, but a pretty good reminder of a time everybody was afraid that the world could end in minutes.
I'd forgotten what that was like, until we elected Rip Torn's character as President of the United States...

Wow. There were warning signs, but I didn't notice most of them 'till I was sitting in the theater:

    Universal.
--Uh oh, but sometimes lower-budget stuff makes it through un-ruined...

    Co-written by Eli Roth.
--Oh god, but his involvement isn't an automatic kiss of death, is it?

Written, directed by, *and staring* "The" Rza.
--Ok, a man who names himself "The" anything is probably egotistic beyond belief... but Tarantino is in a lot of stuff and not too bad...

Well, it's visually gorgeous at least. There are scenes where the detail, especially the cityscapes/backgrounds are quite possibly some of Pixar's best work to date.

Some cool little jokes in the background too.

But the story manages to be both convoluted and boring at the same time. Could barely stay awake. Entirely lacked heart, easily my least favorite Pixar flick to date.

It seems pretty obvious it was only shat out because the toy sales for Cars stuff are insane. Sure, that's why Disney makes a movie/sequel but we all hope for more from Pixar!
