Tammy 2014
Melissa McCarthy is hilarious, but her character in this film is inconsistent. She’s presented as some kind of cave woman in the beginning, yet she’s married to a very traditional, boring middle-upper class man. I love this character most when she’s unpleasant, immature, and idiotic, but she breaks character when she is flirting with the straitlaced farmer. The lesbian Fourth of July party did not offer enough humor or or relevance to make it a necessary plot point, and the lecture from Kathy Bates’s character was uncalled for. So much potential wasted.

My Octopus Teacher 2020
If "The Shape of Water" were a documentary, you'd have "My Octopus Friend." This is a fascinating, beautiful film about beating the odds and overcoming obstacles. Animals have so much to teach us.
