This movie is a miracle. A masterclass in mixing tones. So funny and human. Also, it was all shot within a two block radius of where I used to live, on Sunset and Logan in Echo Park, and it features the pawn shop where I borrowed a drill to hang my pictures and the awesome Panaderia that’s now a rock climbing gym or some shit. This series is basically The Act of Killing, only instead of war criminals getting involved in high end cinematic reenactments of their own war crimes, this is about a delusional middle aged Floridian doing the same thing to his supposed true story of becoming the victim of a marriage extortion ring, which is probably a creation of his imagination, but certainly, at the very least, a severely hyperbolic and self-aggrandizing account of what happened, born out of his own egoistic desire to be the main character of the next great true crime phenomenon.
Brilliant, hilarious stuff!
