Believable and truly beautiful film about friendship, without outstanding performances from Joe Mazzello and the late Brad Renfro. Heartbreaking and absolutely reduces me to a wreck, every time. About time it had a 4K release, or even a decent Bluray.

The Boy in the Woods 2023
Reasonable attempt at telling the true story Maxwell Smart, albeit rather sanitised with some questionable acting. While the lead actor does his best, he lacks the gravitas and urgency needed to fully immerse himself in the character, leading to a somewhat lacklustre performance. The film is reasonably well directed and the Canadian woods serve as a picturesque substitute for Poland in winter, but ultimately this a fairly forgettable film. The postscript to the film is sweet and is arguably the most moving part of Max’s story. 6/10.

The Last Starfighter 1984
It’s campy, somewhat silly, the special effects are dated (but hold up ok), and it’s a universe of fun! A really enjoyable, nostalgic film from the early 80’s, which made the DeLorean cool before Back To The Future and made sci-fi accessible and fun. The theme music is also fantastic! Well worth watching, and a real blast from the past.. a film from my childhood, which I really enjoyed revisiting! 8.5/10

Haunting and strangely beautiful, this is a film that seems entirely lost on its critics. Roger Ebert seems to get the point only in the last sentence of his review, and then only as a ponderance. This is a film full of metaphorical imagery set with in an entirely allegorical tale.
George Mackay gives a superb performance as Jacob, who seemingly identifies as a wolf, and is confined to a mental institution, where he is subjected to horrific “treatment” in…Translated from by
