    Chinatown

Chinatown - I finally got to see this classic the other day, and I think I get why so many young people are going back to the films I grew on, and discovered, via cable: they simply don’t make them like this anymore.

    What I Liked:

Going on a Ride - Polanski takes us on a journey here.  In this case, a detective story.  We get all the clues Jake does, when he does.  You have to wait, and have…

    The Bikeriders

    ★★★½

The Bikeriders - This will be another quick one as time is short.

This was a pretty solid story of the ride and fall of a motorcycle club/gang (the words club and gang are purposely used, and when you see it you’ll understand why).  It’s a cautionary tale that, if you create something, it may eventually move out of your control.

From Paris With Love - I’ve had my eye on this one for almost a decade, but haven’t had the opportunity to see it until now.  The trailer got my attention for one reason: John Travolta saying “Royale with cheese”.  Outside of that, the trailer didn’t give me a great idea of what the flick was about.  In the years since its release, I noticed it got pounded on by critics and viewers alike.  Having seen it myself?  I have…

    The Pope's Exorcist

    ★★★

The Pope’s Exorcist - Another horror flick. This wasn’t on my radar, and I wasn’t sure I’d go see it if I’m being honest. Then I started hearing about Russell Crowe’s performance and I figured a good performance deserved to be seen if it proved true.

    What I Didn’t Like

A Story We’ve Seen Many Times Before: We’ve seen this story 50 years, more or less. What we get here doesn’t reinvent the wheel, nor does it make a better…
