Chernobyl 2019
I want to throw up this was so good. The score is absolutely phenomenal (they went to another Soviet nuclear plant and recorded ambient noises and used that to compose the score!) This whole mini series is proof of what happens when you invest in the details.

Watched the back half of the movie on my iPhone with my friend over zoom bc it was their first time and I have covid.
I cried 3 times and I’m doing it again tomorrow for return of the king.

The first act and the second are drastically different tones to the point of separate but thematically consistent movies of equally high quality that enhance each other by existing.
The villain turn of the Duke from a silly fool to a dark, abusive, controlling man during the like a virgin number is one of the most earned villain turns and is like a slap to the face—shocking and you feel the breath catch in your throat.
The fact come what may wasn’t eligible for best song Oscar bc it was originally written for another film but never used is one of the biggest snubs.
