The Substance 2024
I enjoyed the satire of this. It was really funny how they kept showing asses and doing little comedic bits in between the gut-wrenching dread. That’s kinda the mood for this whole movie, is dread and disgust. And pity. You understand why Elisabeth, Sue, and ElisaSue do what they do, but you don’t want that for them. I had never heard of her before, so when I watched the movie I reminded myself it’s not a solid source of information. But from what I gathered afterward, it is really accurate! I guess there is debate abt the source of her stage name, but everything else seemed to be right. Her story is so good. They portrayed her courage, doubt, humility, and captivating way of performing in a way that I can only assume is at least parallel to how she was in real life. For me it reminds me what art is about; giving of yourself and inviting others to do the same.
