“Like people ignoring the slaughterhouse to enjoy the steak!”
Telling the audience that we should try to face and feel the pain in our world in order to stop perpetuating it + a sympathetic portrayal of a character with a mental illness, showing them as more than just a burden, but a person that enriches the lives of everyone they touch?!
Iconic shit! 9/10

Moana 2 2024
Tried too hard to coast off the charm and jokes of the first film without really committing to doing anything original, leaving us with the worst of both worlds. Also, that conflict they’re trying to set up at the start of the movie feels super hollow, immediately undermining the stakes of the whole adventure.
Still, there were some fun sequences and I almost cried at the end. 🥲 6/10

That was much sillier than I expected?
I came into this with high hopes after decades of people praising it as one of the greats, so the fact that I was not just not underwhelmed but actually had a good time should count for something! Much less of the basic manic pixie dream girl trope I had expected and much less dreary and depressing + Mark Ruffalo’s early-2000s indie-rock look was iconic 🙂↕️😛
