Music was easily the best part, which was lucky because there was lots of it. Performances excellent, overall story not compelling.

A Quiet Place: Day One 2024
This film isn’t bad, at times it’s quite good. But I didn’t really resonate with the story choices made, or feel much concern for the characters, which led to lack of tension. Not really what I expected from a ‘Day One’ type apocalyptic situation.

An American Pickle 2020
I went into this expecting a bizarre twisted comedy, but to my surprise I got a sweet, funny and wholesome family story.
A relatively simple script acted well, with intelligent and clever insights into today’s culture. This film was able to critique and parody everything from the superhero movie, social media, cancel culture and modern politics without ever feeling bogged down by any of them.

The incredibly solid and heavy hitting action is the strength of this film, and the India/Bangladesh setting was new and refreshing. The narrative structure was somewhat generic and forgettable though. An expectedly engaging performance from Hemsworth and was fun to hear some ‘Aussie’ slang eg. “For fucks sake” 😅
