Revisited this in the hope that I'd be able to look past some of its flaws and enjoy it slightly more. Unfortunately, there's little you can do with a bad script. The plot moves from one underwhelming set piece to another, the characters are entirely superficial, almost none of the jokes land, and the villain is completely one-dimensional. I'm not sure why they bothered hiring Jet Li when the Dragon Emperor is given so little to do. The film is,…

Yellow Sky 1948
I think Gregory Peck was miscast as the leader of a gang of outlaws and a little wooden at times. He's still very watchable but too well-spoken for the role. Except for a few scenes, the film is unable to properly sell the supposed ambiguity surrounding his character and where his loyalties lie. Otherwise, it's an enjoyable and well-made Western with an interesting setting in the ghost town and a very good third act. Anne Baxter and James Barton were particularly enjoyable as the no-nonsense Mike and her gold prospector grandfather.

Halloween 1978
Nonsensical, poorly acted, one-dimensional characters, more laughable rather than scary. The opening with the POV shot was already done in the far superior Black Christmas. This was just riddled with cliches - the fact that some of these were not yet ‘cliches’ per say isn’t an excuse, it’s still lazy writing. Also, the killer without any motive was clearly meant to be scary but random, senseless violence just has no impact for me. I cannot fathom the reverence this film receives.

The Evil Dead 1981
This was simply atrocious. I was expecting something quite silly but it was just absurd, with dreadful acting, really cheesy effects (even for its time) and a very sparse plot with a pretty unbelievable setup. There’s also some incredibly unnecessary violence towards woman. I didn’t see it billed as a comedy (the second is apparently more of a parody) but some critics speak of its black humour. Have to say I didn’t notice any jokes and don’t believe I ever once laughed with the film, merely at how poorly made it was. I can see why some would like it but don’t understand it’s classic status.
