Do The Right Thing is by far one of the most culturally relevant pieces of art I have ever seen, and I think every single person on the planet should watch it. Seriously this movie was written 30 years ago and it is questionably more important now than it was at release. From the perfectly mapped out subliminal symbols of racial institutionalism and white gentrification, to the beautifully written surprisingly simplistic but powerful storyline this movie takes the cake.
100% definitely in my top 10
This movie had a lot going for it. Good solid concept, and great groundwork to be an awesome psychological horror film. Alas most of the ideas fell flat when they were executed on the screen. At times the movie felt completely insensitive to people who have similar stories tied to poor unchecked mental health when suffering a significant loss in their lives. The Babadook overgeneralizes certain people’s experiences with trauma and depression. In addition to some of the moments completely…
Easily one of my favorite animated films ever. I’ve watched this movie dozens of times and have never gotten sick of it. The animation is beautiful, excellent imaginative storyline, and it carries a wonderful message from beginning to end.
