MIC DROP FROM BEAT TAKESHI. haven't laughed this hard watching a movie in a long time. wouldn’t exactly call it a movie but whatever. i bet amazon gave him money hoping for a *serious* yakuza thriller. bless.

Great cast, great costumes, great premise. but i’m sorry i thought this was supposed to be juicy and set amid a cesspool of conniving candidates for the papacy?? where was evil john lithgow? it’s just so dumb, but loved how absolutely bonkers this was, and laughed the whole way through. loved the tenderness and the camp and the self-serious nonsense. fun to watch something that leans in so hard for every shot. gender politics (politics in general) here are terrible, madness excellent. a paean that i suspect will be remembered as a eulogy/the death knell for auteur cinema.
