How does one even begin to describe all that is this film? I decided to go into Mulholland Drive pretty blind. No trailers, no reviews. What an amazing decision that was. Mulholland Drive is one of those films that just washes over you and completely captivates you for two and a half hours. The film includes bits and pieces of every genre imaginable, and Lynch brings out the best of all worlds. The way he crawls around every corner and…

    It's a strange world

Indeed it is, especially the world of a Lynch film. The world of Blue Velvet is certainly no exception. The depictions of suburbia, of a small town, of the girl next door, all shrouded in the classic Lynchian dream-like state and visceral cinematography. It's funny, because this feels like it might be Lynch's most accessible film, yet it's certainly not lacking in all of the filmmaking and storytelling elements that make Lynch himself. I really wish I saw this without having already seen the climax, but it still delivered nonetheless! I do wish I could unsee the Jessica and Robbie subplot tho. No thank you.

Eighth Grade was a very witty take on the middle school culture in this day and age. You can really tell that Bo Burnham wanted to create something in line with his own humor and demeanor, and I’m glad he didn’t deviate from that. I thought some of the quirky and exaggerated scenes actually worked well solely due to the knowledge of who was behind the script and the directing.

All in all, I thought the film was really well…

    The Card Counter

    ★★

Not for me. I feel like this movie has no idea what it truly wants to be. Meandering through the gambling scenes and the not-so-believable complexity of the characters (to be fair: Oscar Isaac does give it his all and bring a lot to this performance).

The whole thing to me was just boring, and lacked any depth. Some folks will really like this, just not I.
