Probably the Sean Baker movie I’ve enjoyed the most - honestly very funny in the second half! And Mikey Madison was really great. But I still can’t help but notice that the perspective seems so much more focused on what Anora does, not who she is. There just isn’t a ton of depth there, or maybe a lack of interest. I think this is walking a strange line between appreciation and exploitation (my issue with The Florida Project)
If I didn’t need to watch this for film club I probably would have waited until I could disassociate less during it. But staring intently at 1972 Robert Redford is an engaging way to disassociate so there’s that
