  A distended, rambling mess! This was marketed as sci fi/comedy/satire.. but it’s too incoherent for sci fi, too painfully unfunny for comedy, and too dull for satire. Maybe the movies aren’t back :/

  The shot that I will always remember from this movie is the one where they are all walking together with the white umbrellas. They look indistinguishable and all so small — like a swarming colony of ants. Fiennes’ sermon about the church’s diversity being its strength rings hollow in this shot, as it sets in just how homogenous the church really is. It makes me realize how monotonously SAME these cardinals are that a few small differences in scriptural interpretation…

  The things I love most about this movie, in no particular order:
  1) it centers the class difference between Danielle and Henry, giving her a chance to change him (and by extension the whole country) for the better
  2) Angelica Huston is a BAD BITCH
  3) one of the stepsisters is chill and gets a happy ending
  4) the SHOES baby, let's hear some commotion for the SHOES

  There may be some flaws to this movie, but nostalgia blinders and diva worship of Huston and Barrymore compels me to ignore them :)
