Adaptations translate very difficultly. The cinematography and editing was poor it just seemed low budget because it lacked creativity in setting or camera angles. The writing was good. The storytelling and message was the most beautiful part of the movie. All I can say is the book was probably better.

The Devil Wears Prada 2006
Meryl Streep lives up to the hype. Love the message but it was unclear for a large portion of the film so much that it was stated clearly in the title. Much of the secondary conflicts (such as the relationship with the boyfriend) were underwhelming and didn’t give a clear perspective of the characters inner development. That being said, the fact that those conflicts were so unclear gives the movie a veneer of reality and authenticity because life and real relationships are often very unclear.

Memento 2000
Another classic Christopher Nolan film, mind bending, filmed beautifully and profoundly. Like most of Nolan’s films the message is cryptic as well as confusing and the pacing is chaotic while the chronology is a jumbled mess. A film you can rewatch and see something new every time.

The Boy and the Heron 2023
Exactly what you would expect from Studio Ghibli: breathtaking artwork, mysterious yet familiar world building, incredible soundtrack and curious characters with dynamic development. The message is clear, sincere and healing. The story is familiar and represented elements from many of Miyazaki’s other films especially ‘Spirited Away’ and ‘My Neighbor Totoro.’ Nothing groundbreaking but certainly a quality, classic Ghibli film.
