This stunk!
But it’s important to recalibrate periodically by watching a total stinker ⚖️
All gas no brakes. But, chasing after what, exactly? Hard to say. Formless, yet crafted so carefully. So much funnier than I remember from the first time. (Seeing it in a theater instead of at home during a pandemic helped with that.) Alana Haim, dynamite. More of that please. Great soundtrack. This one’s grown on me.
On 70mm at the lovely Heights Theater. Shout out to the organist for warming up the audience beforehand.
Biggest pleasant surprise movie of 2023? So much to like about this one, including:
-Godzilla destroying everything
-Civilians combatting Godzilla by land sea and air
-Fantastic period appropriate Japanese workwear
-The timeless Godzilla theme music (of course) and more great sound design
-A classic yet satisfying redemption narrative for the protagonist paired with a touching conclusion to a genuinely moving family drama subplot
-The professor, who was so cool and had perfect hair
Godzilla Minus One kind of had it all? Great flick.
My head’s ringing and my muscles are tense. I kind of think this was a good movie? At least in terms of accomplishing what it sets out to do. Or maybe it just made me really stressed. Either way I won’t be revisiting lol
