Well it’s official, Barbie was better than Oppenheimer. Gretta Gerwig has such a special vision in her projects, & clearly is the best at depicting real female characters. Margot Robbie has the quintessential looks for Barbie like she did for Sharon Tate, but it’s her method embodiment of the role that made the movie good. Was the advertising for Mattel heavy handed? Yup. Will Ferrel honestly just shouldn’t have been in more than a few scenes, because that plot line was so weak. Ultimately, Ryan Gosling is laugh out loud funny, this movie is not for men and none of them understand it, & the soundtrack is superb.

I literally just want to find someone else who watched this growing up on cable tv during Halloween time. It scared me smm when I was little particularly the girls cousin not even the monsters. I really forgot how bad the CGI was but this movie holds such a dear place in my heart I wish I had a scary godmother.

I love that David Lynch once said “Kyle MacLachlan is the boy next door if he spent way too much time in his basement.” And that’s so accurate. The movie is of course a psychological thriller/drama, but I also notice some glimpses of ‘camp’ especially in the scenes at Ben’s place. I love the juxtaposition of Laura Derns character with Dorothy’s. Frank is one of the worst movie villains of all time. I thought stylistically the movie was so cool to watch. The vibrant colors and surreal cut scenes were so advanced for the time & still hold up.

Dazed and Confused is an impeccable slice of life film. It subtly examines the teenage experience in just 1 day. It is both timeless and captures a spot on glimpse of 1976 in a small town in Texas. The movie IS somewhat slow and receives the criticism that not much happens, but that is extremely purposeful. It’s far from “just a stoner movie.” It is is endlessly funny, rewatchable, and quotable. Every time I smell weed I instinctively say “looks like someone’s toking some reefer.”
