I definitely see the criticisms of this film but hazard to say that many are missing the point. The excessive sex and male abuse is not the avenue to her liberation but the catalyst that thrusts her out of childlike wonder and joy (an experience many women know far too well). The sex scenes are disturbing, that much is intentional. We’re supposed to be off put by the constant exploitation of bella’s naive mind, and it is that evil that awakes…
