    Midday Black Midnight Blue

    ★★★★★

Do not go into this film expecting anything linear or traditional—but it is a stunning meditation on grief set in the beautiful location of Whidbey Island. The camerawork perfectly captures the actors with tender, emotional, and deeply human shots. The grief depicted in this film reflects how mourning is a deeply illogical and strange experience—memories are out of order and inaccurate and associations are unpredictable. But the writing and direction and acting in this film unite to create a beautifully messy and deeply relatable portrait. Everyone commits fully and bears their heart and soul into their craft, and it’s a privilege to witness.
