i was so excited to see this after watching the same director’s “all about lily chou chou” but lowkey expected more. the movie is a calm slice of life but there’s no type of plot until around the last 20 minutes.

more than a movie, an experience. first the cinematography is amazing. the way the scenes are shot you get such an ethereal, nostalgic feel from watching it, even if you can’t relate to the story. it made me yearn for the days i was a young teenager and the experiences i had during those times one of the boys called “rose colored”, before “the gray”. also enjoyed the way the story incorporated the parasocial relationship with the artist portraying the escapism aspect of music/the internet was really cool.

i wanna rewatch it 10 more times !

A movie that brings to the forefront of your mind every dreadful reality involving your life. A lot of the time when you go into a movie you’re hoping for a sort of escape. Not deliberately, but some way to be in another world than your own. This movie doesn’t allow you to do that. Instead you’re watching a man who can be a mirror of many of us. The protagonist is looking for a “big break” in his dull, lonely life and he then begins to realize that the work he creates literally becomes his life, in all its dreariness and existentialism.

sonically pleasing and creative visuals that you wouldn’t expect from a 60s movie. kubrick did his big one.

the movie forces us to consider the possibility that our increased intelligence is a direct influence of an outside source, and of course there’s bound to be another “influence” ready to impose—we can’t stay stagnant as one type of species right? the thought of another “monolith” of knowledge humans are exposed to that thrusts humanity into a whole other, more advanced field of intelligence is insane. plus we’re extremely close to the ai depiction in the film.
