This film is extremely relevant, more so now than in 2004 when it was released. With the rapid development of AI over the past couple of years (namely almost-human machine learning systems such as chat gpt), what used to seem like a reality we wouldn't get to live in a foreseeable future, is suddenly becoming tangible in our day-to-day. Sure, we haven't reached a human vs AI conflict, and I hope we never will. One thing is for certain though, we'll have to learn to coexist with our new friends.

Bacurau 2019

An odd film with an absurd premise. Surely the directors went through every scene thinking "How can we amp the outlandishness to the max?"
The village of Bacurau, located far in the inner lands of north eastern Brazil, is home to a poignant society of outcasts. Multiracial, poor, hopeless, imprisoned by geography and by political will, it seems like life can't get any worse... but it does.

The Menu 2022
Exposition is omitted to such a degree that the audience is left without the slightest clue of what is happening for most of the film and, once we start getting clues, the stakes are underwhelming.
Anya Taylor Joy manages to shine and give texture to a blandly written character. The remaining guests are completely one dimensional.
The antagonist is rather uninteresting and doesn't give us enough internal conflict to feel empathetic for him. The burger story is cute but doesn't convey the cathartic climax that the director intended.
The "masterchef" aesthetic was the icing on the cake!
