  there’s a scene towards the end of this otherwise pretty loose and fun 2-hour sci fi comedy that will catch you off guard with its abrupt tonal shift. it’s almost as if director bong joon-ho, after letting you ease into the security of the conclusion, reminds you who the fuck is in control of this film and what he’s capable of. 

  i’m bong joon-ho and i run this shit. don’t you forget it. it’s like he’s flexing to the audience. as he should. no one else is doing it like him.

  (robpat and naomi ackie are amazing in this film too. that’s worth mentioning)
