Ridley Scott’s debut and clearly he loved Barry Lyndon.

Rolling Thunder 1977
Young Tommy Lee Jones (whenever he’s around) and the last 20 minutes are magnificent, but there’s a lot of dry, stilted nothing in between, and I wasn’t so much left anticipating as I was just waiting. At this moment I think Tarantino and Bill Hader need to calm down about it being some forgotten 70s classic.

Monster 2023
To finally see this on the big screen... look... I’m no critic, don’t have time to see as many new releases as I would like, and don’t have diffuse enough knowledge to have my finger on the pulse of all potentially genius filmmakers out there - that there ever was or that exists in every corner of the world. To put it as straightforwardly as I can at this moment, I just strongly believe I’ve watched enough of the films that truly speak to me to consider this man’s filmography as containing a number of the most impactful experiences with this artform I will ever have.

2046 2004
In the Mood for Love is in my opinion one of the best movies ever made. With that said, 2046 is something that for me sometimes manages to go even further beyond this as a personal favourite. It is one of the best follow-ups ever and I can’t believe there was ever a point in my life were the extent of my thoughts was only ‘that was pretty good overall’. For something so layered, bold, ambitious and emotionally complex, every single one of these actors not only gets it, but in internalising it deep within their souls, completely delivers in every way.
