  I like the way that this film challenges the modern attention span. It lingers where most modern movies would cut away, and dwells on situations that would probably not have been filmed at all. It makes me wonder: Watching this film at home, on a small screen, how many people use those quiet moments to check their Twitter?

  Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace 1999

  Marginally less shitty than I remembered. This is the first time we see the Republic's Jedi "fully armed and operational", as it were – and there's some stuff here that feeds the imagination and inspires wonder, just as the original trilogy did.

  Still, Lucas introduces so much bullshit here that this not only ends up mediocre film (at best), but it damages the entire saga in the process.
