it's hard for me to hate on this despite its faults. societal critique part seems off to me, either cause it's dated or incongruent with reality or both. it is a bit too melodramatic, and trying to juggle the two got awkward at times. the ending, or lack of one, kind of bothered me. Issa Rae has 0 room to do anything with her character. but the writing is great, and Wright, Ross, and Brown's portrayals are superb. just a really funny movie when it wants to be
