  first half excellent -- the child actors were incredible and captured the tension and confusion of their relationship so well. and then the "twist" happened and it was so formulaic and boring and eye-roll trauma porn. the film really missed the chance to be something beautiful and subtle and relatable -- all for the sake of shock value. and thats a shame

  julio torres has perfected "oh no" no one else is allowed to say it anymore sorry

  clever and fun and original -- one of my new favs! found it a perfect balance of silly and serious, loved the dream sequences and the egg paintings and tilda swinton's insane acting & their sweet moments together. torres uses humor and absurdity to offer a serious critique of the ridiculous hurdles it takes to immigrate to the US, predatory banks, trying to follow your passions but also having to make ends meet.
