  brilliant, riveting, and definitely not what I expected. (a woman actually being portrayed as a competent, inspiring leader, not to mention a feared badass?? a man (played by Tom Cruise, no less) who starts as a weak and frightened coward and eventually works his way up to earning her respect?? a story that is fascinating and unexpectedly unpredictable, a strong ending, and characters that demand respect and inspire bravery?? I mean, cmon. this movie is one of a kind; for many more reasons than those I just mentioned.) seriously. watch it. I know I'm gonna be watching this one again.

  this movie is incredible. inspiring and full of laughter and joy, but also heavy with grief and loss and depression and the struggle that comes with being alive. Meryl Streep is fantastic -- i could feel her pain, her joy, her love, her desperation, and especially her indomitable desire to be the best that she could be, and to inspire / push others to do the same. this is an older movie, certainly, but it's definitely one of my new favorites.
