Beautiful cinematography, and excellent performances. A lot of story to squeeze in. Rather than a single story, a grand arch with a great amount of time between snippets. Rather than a progression, viewer is jerked into situations - the development of the characters not in scale to the decades that pass.
This movie has all the pacing of a planned 13 episode Netflix series that was told they have only enough budget to film one more episode after episode 5.
That being said, the two stars at specifically only for Rachel Zegler's performance. Magnificent songs, and is much rather have watched her showcased in that musical genre. That being said, a weak connection to the franchise.
Half expected the character Snow to drop some freestyle lines in the pub concert scene. Lose yourself, bro. Own it.
Great artistic work and performances. Cage's portrayal of Paul was wonderfully uncomfortable throughout, adding a tension to the film that - like the ending - was unexpected. Themes of how others perceive an individual, and the individual being conflicted with how they'd LIKE to be perceived, and what their life accomplishments will be remembered for, drive Paul's story.
