A great film. There are amazing extreme long shots that really highlight what a lot of America really looks like, and does a beautiful job of using overwhelming country scenery to show us just how small we all are in search for big answers.
Rear window is a movie with a mise-en-scene/cinematography combination that no movie has. Anyone who uses elements of "frame within a frame" is probably taking some extensive notes on this movie. Looking at the Mise-en-scene of this film, it is clear that this movie develops away from Caligari's expressionist style. Nosferatu, unlike The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, attempts to create a realistic life, one that is connectable to the viewer’s world. This vampire movie, with a story line that is seemingly unrealistic, is executed in a way that feels like a direct attack on the world we live in. The second sequence I would choose would be the robbery scene, and when it happens everything is silent, but then when they talk about it in florida on spring break, they put the sound it, and keep the track consistent throughout shots that are quickly cutting from current time to back when they did the robbery. There were a lot of match on sound(?) cuts along with match on action and the actions often dictated the timing at which the movie would change from shot to shot.
